CLEANING AND SEALING YOUR CONCRETE PAVERS |
|
| WHY? | |
| It enhances the original color to give it a "WET LOOK". | |
| It creates a seal over the top of the sand joint between the pavers to: | |
| A: reduce the chance that the sand joint may be washed out by rain. | |
| B: reduce the chance that a weed seed will germinate when it falls between the joints of the pavers. | |
| Protects against oil and dirt for easier cleaning. | |
| WHEN SHOULD I SEAL? | |
| You do not have to seal your pavers at all or you may seal them on a regular basis. The pavers must be installed for at least 60 days before having them sealed, to allow the concrete to cure. You may want to seal every 2 years or you may want to seal at longer intervals. Whenever you feel you would like a new finish on them again. Most applications last 2-4 years. | |
| HOW DO WE DO IT? | |
| First day | |
| Edge back the grass that may have crept over the top of the pavers. | |
| Do spot cleaning of oil, rust, paint, tar and other stains. (Depending on the age of the stain, we may not be able to get the entire stain out) | |
| Do an efflorescence scrubbing bath on the pavers to prepare the surface for sealing. It is a nitric acid solution (contains nitrogen, safe for your lawn and plants) which cleans away any efflorescence (salts) and dirt. This solution is than power washed down. | |
| We will barricade the driveway to keep car traffic off till sealed. | |
| Second day (the pavers must be dry to proceed) | |
| Refill the paver joints with jointing sand, sweep and power blow clean. | |
| Apply the PaverGuard Protective Sealant. We will roll the edges and spray the middle of the paver area. | |
| You will be able to walk on the area within a few hours, but you must keep car traffic off your driveway for 24 hours after it has been sealed. |
